Glacial Landscapes

about the works:

This exhibition has resulted from an ongoing exploration of form in the landscape and a February 2008 visit to the Antarctic Peninsula as a Theme Media artist in residence on Quark Expedition’s M/V Lyubov Orlova. An interest in ice ages that have occurred in deep geological time in Australia has led me to specific landscapes near Bacchus Marsh in Victoria, Geraldton in WA, and parts of SA, as well as to the present icecap in Antarctica. In the Antarctic works, icebergs breaking from the currently warming Peninsula form ‘monumental’ sculptures as do historic relics from the ‘heroic’ era of exploration. Here, even the wildlife can take on a similar attitude.
